Frequently Asked Questions
Have a question about marketing, copywriting, or my services?
You'll find the most common answers here - but if all else fails, contact me to ask for clarification.
What is a copywriter?
A copywriter understands your business to enhance your brand, engage your customers and increase sales through communication.
Why do I need a copywriter?
Copywriting is more than just putting words together - it's opening up communication for your business that stokes action and creates raving fans.
Couldn't I just write it myself?
Yes, you could, but let me ask you this: would you try to fix your own car without any experience or hire a professional?
Copywriting is an investment that keeps on giving - don't cut corners; it could cost you your business.
What's your availability?
I like to be ahead on my projects to give me time to focus on new ones. Of course, it can take a couple of weeks before I can get started - but these things should not be rushed.
Do you charge per word?
In short, no.
I often hear this question, and I always have the same answer:
You pay a copywriter for results that they get, not the number of words they produce - more words doesn't equal high-quality.
How do you charge for your services?
I have two pricing structures:
1) (If a one-off project) I charge by the scope of the project.
2) (For regular retainer work) I charge a daily rate and set a minimum number of days per billing period (monthly).
What if I need work urgently?
I always meet my deadlines but know that most urgent work may require a "rush fee".
This fee will cover for out of hours work time and if I have to postpone any other client work to meet your deadline.
If I do feel that your deadline isn't realistic, I'll advise you accordingly.
I want to work with you, how do I do that?
The best way to work with me is to arrange a discovery call with me using this contact form.
This will give me the chance to get to know your business, products, and services and ask all of the relevant questions to understand your needs.
After this call, if we're a good match, I'll provide you with a formal proposal priced per project and retainer.
When you're ready, I'll send over the invoice and contract for you to sign, and we'll begin.
Do you require a deposit?
Yes, the deposit is 50% of the one-off project investment or the first month's retainer upfront.
This secures my time allocation to work on your project.
Do you deliver free samples?
I've been a copywriter for over a decade, carefully crafting the skills, knowledge and experience to make sure that I provide the best possible service to my clients.
I do not offer free samples - you can see examples of my work on my portfolio. However, if you want to see something specific, then I will work with you to negotiate a paid sample.

Do you charge extra for Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)?
Having a website without SEO is like having a sandwich without bread - it just isn't worthwhile.
I will provide you with all you need for website copy and/or blog articles to get your website noticed by potential customers.
I also package this within the relevant services.
So does that mean you can get my website onto Google's first page?
Anybody that tells you that they can "guarantee first-page ranking on Google" is lying to you.
Firstly, the whole point in SEO is to make your website visible for the people who are searching for specific answers. So if you have key terms that nobody is using - then yes, you will be on Google's first page, but you won't get any traffic.
Anybody that tries to hide the key terms on your webpage will get your website penalised for 'keyword stuffing'.
So how do I get your website noticed?
I apply all SEO best practices to my web-related copy (both front-end and back-end) by using competitive keywords found through research.
Do you offer creative services like design, video editing, or audio editing?
I supply the copy only and recommendations on how and where to use it.
I do have a wide network and will provide you with all access to experts in the creative industries should you need it.
What's the difference between a Copywriter and a Content Writer?
Content writing is primarily designed to educate or entertain, whereas copywriting is primarily designed to persuade.
However, the terms are used interchangeably, and there can be cross over at times.
Why should I choose to work with you?
I've spent years honing my craft, and I use all of my knowledge and experience to create copy that will spur your target audience into action.
The keyword here is "target". I make sure I have a thorough understanding of three things before I even begin putting words on a piece of paper:
- Your business brand, values, and goals - including competitor analysis.
- Your products and services - the ins and outs of them, what problem they solve, how will they benefit your customer?
- Your target customer - including a deep analysis of their demographics, situation, and psychographics.
If you're looking for a lot of content and copy for cheap - try using a content mill, but be warned - you get what you pay for.
Do you work internationally?
Yes, I work with companies worldwide - including the USA, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Hong Kong, South Africa and Italy.
